Cartoon Sunday: Tenjho Tenge
|
How's it going my gumdrops? Last weekend, when I was in the middle of watching Blue Exorcist and Black Lagoon on Adult Swim, I realized that those shows are almost over. The same applies to Bleach. I'm worried about their replacements. When I watched Swimnami last night, it was announced, that Gurren Lagann will premiere next month. It was aired several times on Syfy (a.k.a. The Syfylis Channel) within these last several years.
Gurren Lagann Trailer
Of all the Mecha Anime titles, why Gurren Lagann? It was entertaining, until some of the main characters were killed, throughout the series. If minor characters were killed, it wouldn't have been so bad. Gurren Lagann was a depressing Mecha Anime.
Once Black Lagoon is over, I don't know what will be its replacement. Something tells me, that I won't be watching Swimnami for much longer. Lately, I've been watching at least 90 minutes of the block compared to 30 minutes. I don't know if the future titles will be just as good or incredibly bad compared to Bleach, Blue Exorcist, and Black Lagoon. With Bleach ending in the fall and Dragon Ball Kai premiering near the same time, I predict that Dragon Ball Kai will be Bleach's replacement. I cringe at the thought of this happening. Don't get me wrong. Bleach has been run its course. I just don't want to look at a shitty acquisition as Bleach's replacement. Besides, Adult Swim needs more room for shorter titles rather than constantly airing perennial Shonen Jump Anime.
It's like I've said a million times or more, there needs to be more Seinen, Josei, and Shojo Anime titles on the Swimnami block. I can't help stressing, that there needs to be more diversity on Adult Swim as a whole, especially on Saturday nights. If Swimnami gets another short Seinen Anime, I pray to God, that it's better than Deadman Wonderland. I couldn't sit through the first 5 minutes without leaving my room to come back online. The network should try acquiring the rights to Another. Another is similar to Deadman Wonderland. It's a Horror/Murder Mystery Anime without the mindless violence and being centered around a crybaby main character.

Okay, is it just me or does that Anime critic sound like Klaus from American Dad? LOL! I'm just saying.
Since Adult Swim is so hell bent on airing nothing except Action Anime, I would personally like to see more Horror Action, Supernatural, and Martial Arts titles. Even though Beelzebub lasts for only 1 year, it's still an Anime worth Adult Swim buying.

Beelzebub needs an English Dub. It's a Supernatural Shonen Anime, that has Action, Comedy, and Martial Arts with a hint of Romance. Tatsumi Oga is the main character in Beelzebub. He's considered to be "the strongest juvenile deliquent," during his high school freshman year at Ishiyama High School. Ishiyama is a high school specifically for juvenile delinquents. The series begins with Tatsumi explaining to his friend, Takayuki Furuichi about him (Tatsumi) sleeping by a river, while seeing a man float down it. Tatsumi pulls the man to shore but the man splits open. The man's open body reveals Beelzebub. Beelzebub is the Demon Lord's baby boy. Beelzebub was sent to Earth to find a human to raise him, while destroying humanity. Hilda, who is Beelzebub's maid, informs Tatsumi Oga, that he chose Tatsumi as his father, while living on Earth. He electrocutes Tatsumi as he cries, whenever Tatsumi moves so many feet away from him. Beelzebub's crying is so dangerous, that Tatsumi is forced to carry him everywhere. He even fights other juvenile delinquents with Beelzebub clinging to his body. LOL! If you enjoy watching Shonen Martial Arts/Comedy Anime and don't care if it's in Japanese with English subtitles, I recommend watching this series. Beelzebub kept me laughing 2-3 years ago.
Since Adult Swim wants to continue buying previously aired Anime, it wouldn't hurt to buy Tenjho Tenge. Years ago, when more cable/satellite channels were competing against Cartoon Network and Adult Swim for Anime ratings, Fuse TV aired Tenjho Tenge. It's a Seinen Martial Arts Anime. Imagine if Ikki Tousen wasn't painful to watch. When I say that, I mean less panty shots, and a decent dialogue and plot without terrible voice acting.
Most Anime fans, who have survived watching the very 1st episode of Ikki Tousen, have been scarred for life. They wanted to jump off burning bridges after watching it. If you don't believe me, I dare you to watch Ikki Tousen. Godspeed to you all! Only the masochists and people, who love having their intelligence insulted, enjoyed watching that series. Ikki Tousen makes most Anime fans, who I know want to shoot themselves. Personally, I would rather be shanked by my gynecologist 10 times than be forced to watch Ikki Tousen ever again. Even Anime News Network gave it a bad review. LOL! The voice acting is torturous. It sounds like the voice actors were forced to read their lines. I wonder if they were waterboarded between voice acting scenes. LMAO! Like I said, Ikki Tousen is horrendous!
Anyway, Tenjho Tenge is a Seinen/Martial Arts/Action/Romance/Supernatural Anime. It centers around these 2 high school freshmen, juvenile deliquents named, Souichiro Nagi and Bob Makihara. They arrive at Toudou Academy with the intent to dominate the high school with their strength. Little do Souichiro and Bob know, that they encountered the Jyuukenbu. Jyuukenbu is Toudou Academy's Martial Arts Club. The Jyuukenbu consists of Masataka Takayanagi, along with Maya and Aya Natsume. Aya is a freshman, Masataka is a sophomore, and Maya is a junior. The 3 of them overpower Souichiro and Bob, which I always found hilarious. Well, I don't want to explain too much. I'll simply let you watch the 1st episode of Tenjho Tenge. Here's episode 1 of Tenjho Tenge for this week's Cartoon Sunday.

Maybe you can answer a couple of questions for me. I've been wondering why the guys in the Japanese and Korean music videos mostly seem to be annoyed or repulsed be females. Is it because of the age group represented where guys are still too young to be interested in girls, or is it cultural? Or something else? And why do the Anime characters have round eyes? I've wondered this since I saw them on Saturday mornings decades ago. Is it because they're aimed at the American market?
Also, most Anime characters have huge or sometimes wide eyes. When I did my Carthage Junior Symposium on Manga (mostly Shojo Manga) years ago, I've noticed besides the drawn eye shapes and sizes, most Asian people have a complex about their physical appearances. Some will go as far as to have eye surgery because they don't have an extra layer to their eyelids. Asians have experienced a lot of discrimination over the decades and still do because of their eyes. Many (but not all) have developed a self-hatred and wish to look more Westernized. I try to keep myself hidden because there are certain people from my past, who I don't ever want to see or speak to again. Well, I can't do that as much anymore, since I now have this website. LOL! It's only a matter of time until exes, past bullies and opportunists, and long lost family members come out the woodwork like some cockroaches. It's a good thing I'm broke. Otherwise, they would want my money. LOL!
