Cartoon Sunday: NANA

Posted by Anna H. on July 27, 2014 at 1:45 AM

How's it going my gumdrops? Had I not discovered, that Black Lagoon's timeslot has been changed to 1/2 hour later than usual, I wouldn't be so annoyed today. Normally, it airs at 1:30am Central rather than 2am. It would be great if all the Shonen and the only Seinen Anime, that I watch, didn't have so many gaps between each other. Here are the only shows I watch on the Swimnami block in this usual order:

11pm Bleach

12am Naruto Shippuden

1am Blue Exorcist

1:30am Black Lagoon

Because I hate sitting through Attack On Titan, Space Dandy, One Piece, and now Beware The Batman, I normally come back online to respond to my friends/subscribers on other sites. Luckily for me, I've already watched Bleach, Naruto Shippuden, Blue Exorcist, and Black Lagoon in Japanese. Watching them in English on Adult Swim is more of a refresher for me. If I could, I would schedule all 4 of these shows to be aired back to back at slightly earlier times. Then, I would ditch the entire lineup. With the way things are going within the next month or so, I probably won't be watching Adult Swim on the weekends. That's until I hear them announce more Anime titles, that are worth watching. I really do believe, that Adult Swim wants to keep alienating their intended demographic more than they have already. As soon as they buy decent Anime titles, they air them at unreasonable hours. Most people are sleeping around 1 and 2 am. Not that I'll be asleep around those hours, however I have other things I need and want to do.

Blue Exorcist only has 2 more episodes and Black Lagoon only has 6 episodes left. This is in addition to 5 OVA's. I wonder if Swimnami will air the OVA's, Black Lagoon: Roberta's Blood Trail.

Chances are great Adult Swim won't bother airing them. Black Lagoon's 5 OVA's each run for 35 minutes. If the network ever chose to air them, they would knock every series out of schedule. That's unless they were to marathon all 5 OVA's on a late Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Without a doubt, I'm not re-watching Gurren Lagann, after I watched that depressing Anime several times on The Syfylis Channel, years ago. LOL!

Adult Swim really needs to bring back the Horror Anime Genre. There's tons to choose from each Shonen, Shojo, Seinen, and Josei genre. Hell, I would be satisfied if the network aired Devil May Cry as Black Lagoon's replacement.

Once again, Swimnami needs to spice up their schedule because every viewer doesn't want to re-watch Gurren Lagann. I'm not the only Adult Swim viewer, who feels this way. Well, at least it hasn't been over played up the ass like Cowboy Bebop, Ghost In The Shell, and Inuyasha. LOL! Of all the titles to buy, Gurren Lagann? Most people with basic cable and satellite dish packages get The Syfylis Channel. We've already seen it several times. Too bad I don't work at Cartoon Network or Adult Swim. I would give them input regarding better animation to acquire and air in general. Why do they continue to beg their viewers to watch their programming, when it's mostly a heaping pile of shit? If Adult Swim wasn't so sexist, they could buy and air Ghost Hunt.

Ghost Hunt is like a Horror/Supernatural Mystery version of Case Closed for the female audience. Shojo Horror Anime titles aren't always that feminine. I'm willing to bet the male demographic would still watch Hell Girl and Ghost Hunt. If "Bronies" can sit and watch My Little Pony (which was originally for us little girls, during the 1980's), they can watch some Shojo Anime. ROTFLMFAO!!! I mean, seriously.

My friends/subscribers on Xanga, Blogster, Writers Cafe, and Horror-Punks already know, that I'm constantly complaining about Cartoon Network and Adult Swim being sexist. Since both networks will never air any Shojo and Josei Anime, I thought I would show you 1 of my favorite Josei titles, NANA. Remember when I posted my Song Saturday blog about Anna Tsuchiya? In cased you missed it, the link is below.

Rather than droning on with my complaints, I'll get straight to the point. On a much lighter note, here's the English Dub of NANA for today's Cartoon Sunday.

Well, nothing much I can say again as I have no history or experience in this area. Lotsa violence though, just an observation, not a criticism, says he who is ready for war.

These are mostly violent Seinen Action Anime trailers but most of what is on Adult Swim is violent, including their comedies. Adult Swim used to have more variety throughout the weeknights, when I was in college. Now, the network only airs Comedy throughout the week both animation and live action. Adult Swim only airs Anime on late Saturday nights and early Sunday mornings. All their Anime titles must be Shonen and Seinen Action Anime. They don't want to air any Comedy, Drama, Romance, Shojo, Josei, etc. Adult Swim WILL squeeze in Shonen and Seinen Horror and Supernatural Action Anime titles. Otherwise, they won't air it. The network excludes 1/2 their actual audience and make their casual viewers ignorant to other Anime sub-genre because they think every Anime is Action Anime.

Meanwhile, what did you think about NANA?

Nana is sweet, Mimiko likes her. I really liked the music in it too, especially the last song.

OMM I love Nana! Both the anime and manga which I need to finish up. FInally Ghost Hunt is being continue so I am looking forward to that because Ghost Hunt was awesome. And Devil May Cry was weak compared to the video games.

I'm glad you liked NANA. I noticed that once the 1st part of the series was dubbed, they switched ending theme songs. Olivia Lufkin's songs were usually the ending theme songs. Instead of them playing Olivia's "A Little Pain" for these earlier episodes, they switched it with her song "Starless Night."

Seems like you are enjoying your JapAnime series, Realist. As for me and TV series, I like Hi Hi Puffy Amiyumi, Robocop the series, Star Trek TOS w William Shatner, and Batman Beyond.

So - two of those are animated anyways. :)

Dw817, have you watched Adult Swim within the last few months? Some of their better animated shows (including the Anime) mostly air on the weekends. What do you think about my suggestions?

Meanwhile, Hi Hi Puffy Amiyumi hasn't aired on Cartoon Network in years, unless they rebooted it. Sometimes I used to watch it in my dorm room at Carthage, while folding my laundry on Saturdays. As for Batman, I haven't enjoyed much of the franchise in years. I haven't watched Robocop, since the time I was a little girl in the early 90's. Also, I've hated Star Trek, since the time I was toddler in the early 80's. LOL!

I don't have cable TV or really any television for that matter. Everything I need is on the Internet and I download the episodes for shows I like. I like Robot Chicken too but I think a lot of people enjoy that.

The Batman Beyond is really quite good, it takes place in the future where a new prodigy takes over elder Batman's place and fights crime with his help.

Star Trek w William Shatner is where all the good Sci-Fi on TV came from. Sure there was Space 1999 and Jason of Star Command for the kids but Star Trek has always had a special place in my heart.

Hi Hi Puffy Amiyumi, as I reviewed it one time, if cartoons ran on sugar, this would be it. Truly a series to watch and just set your brain on puree as it's madcap funny and mindless.

Robocop the series I just found out about recently. There are 22-episodes before it folded, but there is also another reboot series Robocop that was a mini-series with 4 full 90-minute episodes.

If you've never seen the original Robocop movie, you should. It's really camp and fun to watch.

Sorry for not responding a lot sooner. We had a storm come through and it tried shorting our power. I had to reset our Internet connection.

What Adult Swim is airing is called Beware The Batman. It's a totally different show. On Sunday night, Adult Swim just aired Robot Chicken's Bitch Pudding Special. It was a spoof about classic Strawberry Shortcake and the town was plotting to kill Bitch Pudding. LMAO! It was so wrong.

As I said for Robocop, it's been over 20-something years, since I last watched it. I remember watching the original Beverly Hills 90210 and this dumb boy decided to imitate Robocop. He ended up accidentally shooting himself and dying. The most pathetic part was that the character was a teenager imitating Robocop. LOL!
