How's it going my gumdrops? I've been really busy this week both on and offline.
Last night, I was on Adult Swim and some of us posters were on the topic of the new N.W.A. movie, Straight Outta Compton. Someone posted a thread about it having cops swarming around all the movie theaters, in case of possible massacres.
Straight Outta Compton Trailer (2015)
Straight Outta Compton released in the movies theaters on August 14th, which was yesterday. After watching the commercial for the movie on TV last week, I said to myself, "Talk about impeccable timing. This movie is being released too soon given the latest political issues with race riots and the police."
I had already predicted that police officers would be swarming around the movie theaters. Within the last month to 3 years, there have been several movie theater shootings by sociopathic white men. The media would have a field day by adding Straight Outta Compton as a scapegoat for more shootings.
After the Dark Knight Rises Shooting in July 2012, I felt scared to go to the movie theaters. Then again, I haven't gone to the theaters in literally 10 years. The last movie I went to see was Four Brothers in 2005.
Most of the movies that have released over this last decade have been shitty reboots, dumb frat boy comedies, chick flicks for highly desperate and horny middle-aged women and teenyboppers, etc. Why would I waste money to go watch those horrible movies?
Massacres at movie theaters in the suburbs isn't something, that most people would expect to happen. Yeah, I said it. There are more shootings, that are happening in the ghettos than in the 'burbs.
Every time I turn on my TV and watch the local news, we hear about mass shootings in the ghettos. There have been a few massacres in the white suburban areas over these last 3 years in WI. Most people wouldn't expect something like this to happen regardless of our races/ethnicities, socioeconomic statuses, sexual orientations, etc. When I say this, I mean we expect this more in the ghetto.
Before anyone says, "That's so racist! I can't believe you just said that!" take a chill pill already because I'm not white. I'm a mutt from the 'burbs.
Nowadays, I sometimes feel scared and worried about my family going to work and to the store. We are never certain of when a sociopath(s) are going to commit domestic terrorist attacks. This can most definitely be said about our movie theaters.
Not that there have been any major movies to motivate me into wasting money to sit through a bunch of political PSA's and be lectured to death. However, the thought of being in the middle of watching a movie, while a sociopath randomly opens fire on innocent viewers is appalling.
On Adult Swim, I brought up the topic of Horror movies. We talked about Carrie and its reboots. This was along with Scream. Some on Adult Swim believe that Carrie was about a girl getting revenge on high school bullies.
In a way, I had to laugh because those posters don't always see the bigger picture to anything. They've been brainwashed into believing everything national news (mostly CNN) tells them. Most Adult Swim posters only see 1 side of something and run with it rather than thinking for themselves.
Not to sound like I'm being condescending, but some of those posters can be very ignorant. This led to me giving them a more in depth perspective of the original Carrie.
Carrie Trailer (1976)
I explained to some Adult Swim posters, that I always considered Carrie to be the so-called "moral of the story" type of movie with a Horror twist to it. I believe that Carrie shows, when bullying goes wrong and can possibly be used as a way to scare teenage bullies straight.
I felt sympathy for Carrie White. Her mother was a deranged and extremely abusive Christian extremist. Mrs. White sheltered Carrie to the extent, that she was naive about puberty. To make matters worse, there were evil classmates bullying Carrie about going through puberty and her death was tragic.
In addition, I explained to those same Adult Swim posters about Horror movies. This includes the Slasher genre. I let them know that Slashers in particular have moral themes to them. Slashers always have serial killers in them but they are always considered to be "The Moral Villain."
Serial killers are not necessarily labeled moral villains because of wanting to swear vengeance. They have this label because teenagers are not supposed to be having premarital sex, using drugs, and all things that are considered "immoral."
Horror movies, especially Slashers get the most flack because of the violence in them. Most people don't understand that there are hidden messages behind these movies. The Christian extremist, helicopter parents, and media watchdog groups are too fixated on demonizing Horror because of the sex and violence being shown.
The Christian extremists, helicopter parents, and media watchdog groups all use the sex and violence in entertainment as a scapegoat for why people do what they do. They have been using these issues as over used scapegoats for decades.
No poster on Adult Swim had a rebuttal for what I explained to them, which is great. Maybe they will let everything, that I told them sink into their minds. Most on that forum need to think for themselves and learn something new, that's not from the national news.
Because I have explained more in detail about violence in movies, entertainment as a scapegoat for violent crimes, theaters massacres, etc. here's N.W.A.'s "Straight Outta Compton" for today's Song Saturday.
